Subaru Impreza Rally Car

Subaru started making an impression on the World Rally Championship with its 1990 4WD turbo Legacy. When the 1994 Impreza was introduced, they used it because it was both lighter and smaller, thus more nimble. The road was so good that the rally car remained very similar in layout, having MacPherson struts all around but fully adjustable.

Vented discs with four-pot callipers at each corner ensured superb braking while the 4WD system remained 50:50 split in torque. A tubular roll cage strengthened up the stock body and gave the required safety. The flat-four engine received new engine management but was limited to 300bhp (223kW) as Per the FIA World Rally regulations, and used a three-way catalytic converter to conform to emissions standards. This car is Colin McRae's WRC-winning car which made him the first British champion and Subaru's first, champion also.
