Edsel Citation
Hurried into production, the Edsel was beset by production problems and quality control. But it wasn't all bad. Once the problems had been overcome it represented a premium brand with a lot going for it, Unfortunately by then most buyers had turned to other cars!
What the Citation offered was power everything including the hood and front bench seat. Unusual extras inside included the 'cyclops' style rotating speedo placed centrally in the dash, and the station-seeking radio. Underneath there was nothing radical with wishbones and leaf springs front and rear, though the powerplant was extremely torquey to make the Edsel quite a performer for its day. With hindsight it's easy to see that the car was doomed from the very start, and it now represents one of the biggest flops in motoring history. Which, ironically, is also what makes it highly collectable.
